FRIDAY NOVEMBER 16th @ NOTTING HILL ARTS CLUB - SCRATCH PRESENTS: B-SIDE ft JEHST FULL LIVE BAND + FREE FLEXI DISKS !!

https://www.facebook.com/events/370794073005344/

B-SIDE has been jam packed with opened minded up for it party people for the last 3 months and our next live session is set to not disappoint.

An iconic name synonomous with multi-layered lyricism, liquid flows and blunted beats, Jehst is one of the few seminal figures credited with spearheading a movement of artists who would kick open the doors for homegrown Hip Hop to become as vibrant & healthy as it is today

Far from just a local hero, Jehst is a name known globally with an influence reaching far an
d wide from America's underground to Australia and back again. NME have named him a "cult hero", Mike Skinner (The Streets) described him as "fantastic" in his recent autobiography and even 'rapper's rapper' Pharoahe Monch has praised Jehst's abilities, telling The Cut "Dope, dope. I like his pocket... where his rhymes fall at."

With a captivating stage presence to match his studio persona, Jehst 's reputation on the live circuit has seen him billed alongside some truly iconic artists. This Autumn alone sees him sharing stages with DOOM, Public Enemy and Lord Finesse! So it's safe to say that the B-Side audience are in for a treat when he hits the stage with his live band to showcase new material as well bringing a live twist to some of his well known underground classics.

With Micall Parknsun (YNR) on the mic and the MPC, Jazz T (Boot Records / ITF champ) on turntables, Louis Slipperz (Task Force / Owiny Segoma Band) on bass, the sultry Fae Simon on backing vocals & time-changing magician Kwake (Speakers Corner Quartet) on drums, Jehst's live band are a force to be reckoned with.

And don't forget the JEHST B-SIDE flexi-disc FREE give away to the first 100 people through the door. Get down early to pick up November's super exclusive edition #fresh fruit

Royalty Live @ Scratch the B-Side @ Notting Hill Arts Club

Friday 21 September at the Notting Hill Arts Club
7pm-2am, free before 8pm, £6 before 11pm, £8 after

Live on stage at 10pm: Royalty (Five Easy Pieces)
United DJ's from Scratch & Funk Royale: Richy Pitch (Gorillaz Sound System), Matt Smooth and Mr Chex (Funk Royale) and host MC Tukka

What a wicked start we had last month, with Mo Kolours playing a deep set on stage.

This month we have the seriously talented (and underrated) Royalty, aka east London duo Chesca and Elliott Yorke whose music is released by the badda than bad Five Easy Pieces.

Their latest EP, 'Purple Nights', demonstrates the rapid maturity of their suave, electrofunky digital boogie. XLR8R described them very well:
'Somewhere in between Daft Punk's robotic revelry, Kraftwerk's chilly minimalism, and Jimmy Edgar's austere sex appeal, you'll find Royalty's Chesca and Elliot Yorke working out deep low-end melodies, incessant dance rhythms, alien vocoder sounds, and icy synthlines - all of which perfectly create the duo's retro-futuristic motif.'

And don't forget the Royalty flexi-disc which B-Side are giving away to the first 100 people through the door. Get down early to pick up September's exclusive edition'.

DJ Woody's Big Phat 90's AV Show + Four Owls Live

Back in 96 we started out at The Cross Bar which is now known as The Big Chill House. On the 29th September we return for what's sure to be another jammin' night of true school hip hop

DJ Woody's 'Big Phat 90's' AV show is a nostalgic chronological musical ride through some of the decades dopest moments, taking in the likes of De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, Naughty By Nature, Cypress Hill, Beastie Boys, Fugees, Dr Dre, SnoopDoggy Dogg and much more.

DJ Woody reworks the classics with his unique blend of custom graphics, video sound bites and renowned turntable technique to rock the 'slamminest' 90's house party since Kid n Play raised the roof.

Live on stage we have the UK's most exciting live outfit for some time, The Four Owls (with DJ Madnice)

Led by the merciless BIG OWL (FLIPTRIX), guided by the teachings of BIRD T (VERB T), entertained by the do-or-die spirit of RUSTY TAKE-OFF (BVA MC) & inspired by the inventions of DEFORMED WING (LEAF DOG). Expect nothing less than that raw boom bap

Hosted by MC TUKKA and SCRATCH DJ's Matt Smooth, Tomski, Lyley and Richy Pitch (Gorillaz Sound System)

Hip Hop don't stop

Brand New Flava in Ya Ear

We kicked off SCRATCH back in June '96 in Kings Cross, it quickly became the monthly spot to hit with regular graffiti shows, breaking battles and the biggest names in hip hop. We've rocked parties around the world, released the best selling 'Scratch Vol 1' on Rawkus and were voted one of the Top 10 nights of the millennium by Time Out.

This isn't to say we're not continuing the party, far from it (news soon come on Scratch in Sept) but we feel the time has come to start a brand new party with a new twist

and it's with great pleasure we announce Scratch presents B-SIDE

B-SIDE represents the extensive tastes of the crew. These sessions will be wide open, always on a club tip, exploring new music with a forward thinking soulful injection and of course a hip hop attitude.

Hitting the stage at the launch will be the much hyped and seriously dope MO KOLOURS, of the equally fresh One-Handed Music.

Described by FACT as “hashed-out Madlib-meets-Theo Parrish" we are seriously excited to kick off this new party with MO KOLOURS

Hosted by MC Tukka and Scratch DJ's Richy Pitch (Gorrillaz Sound System), Lyley, Matt Smooth and Tomski alongside Funk Royale's Mr Chex, Tobey 1 and Ben Bailey.

B-SIDE kicks off on 31st August at Notting Hill Arts Club, 8pm - 2pm
MO KOLORS live on stage at 10pm

If that wasn't enough each month we'll be giving away a super exclusive B-SIDE FLEXI DISK. That's right we're giving them away to the first 100 people through the door, so make sure you get down early to pick up August's edition featuring the exclusive MO KOLOURS beat '93'
